How did the nonprofit advocacy group Canadian Journalists for Free Expression (CJFE) win Canada’s first ‘press shield’ law for the protection of journalistic sources?

Why are the early childhood educators in Peterborough, Waterloo, Ottawa, Thunder Bay, Durham and Toronto organizing in local teams to press for decent work and affordable child care? What motivates them to continue even after their dream of universal childcare recently was dashed?

SPEAKERS:

Suze Morrison - MPP, Toronto Centre
Olivia Chow - Founder of the Institute for Change Leaders
Lyndsay MacDonald and Alana Powell - Childcare Professors and Activists
Duncan Pike - Former Executive Director, Canadian Journalists for Free Expression

Come to the Institute for Change Leaders (ICL) second-anniversary celebration to encourage and learn of organizers’ successes.

You will hear how Ryerson’s Institute for Change Leaders has had a transformative impact on the lives of our students and our partners. Since launching the Institute for Change Leaders, we have been hard at work equipping organizers with the skills they need to make social change. Join us for our second anniversary as we share our successes, celebrate the power of organizing and look into the future of our work.

Note: Food will be served! Reception will occur between 6pm-6:45pm
