ICL's Fifth Anniversary Celebration!

ICL is turning 5 and we are SO EXCITED! We're gathering an incredible group of leaders and performers, including Samra Zafar, a bestselling author and educator for mental health and human rights. Her book, A Good Wife: Escaping the Life I Never Chose, based on her journey of escaping an abusive child marriage to pursue her education, is a national bestseller and was one of CBC's Best Books of 2019.

We’ll also hear from Janet Merlo, a former RCMP officer who spoke out against sexual harassment and misconduct in the ranks and is taking action to make systemic changes. And we will be energized by the famed Canadian spoken word artist/poet Randell Adjei, the first Poet Laureate of Ontario, who opened for former President Barack Obama when he visited Toronto.

We will also present the 2021 ICL Alumni Awards, which recognizes the remarkable achievements of our community of change leaders and organizers.

It has been such a journey getting to this point, so friends new and old, please come and celebrate our half-decade of empowering social justice seekers to enact change.

Admission is free! Register today to join us. When you register for the event you will be entered in a free raffle to win one of two books written by our keynote speakers! Samra Zafar's "A Good Wife: Escaping the Life I Never Chose" or Janet Merlo's "No One to Tell: Breaking My Silence on Life in the RCMP". Winners must be in attendance to claim their prize.

Since launching in 2016 we have been hard at work equipping organizers with the skills they need to make social change. Despite the ongoing pandemic, 2021 has been a busy year: we’ve trained over 2,000 new activists and formed partnerships with 25 new organizations across Canada and the United States.

Join us to celebrate these accomplishments, get inspired, and have some fun!
