People in the disabled community often live in unsafe and abusive conditions, in fear of speaking up because they may lose the support they do get, and endure countless barriers.
It has to change.
Many people in the disabled community become activists or advocates just to survive, but often lack the knowledge of the true power of their story, and the many different paths to change. The opportunity to gain this knowledge is often inaccessible.
Leadership Training for the Disability Community is an online training designed to make this knowledge accessibly for people in the disabled community. This is a training and coaching program designed for the disabled community, family members, and allies, who are emerging or experienced disability advocates and who are interested in taking action to improve conditions for the disabled community in Canada.
During this three-session online course you will learn how to:
- Tell your story to motivate others to take action.
- Recruit and keep volunteers
- Choose a strategy and tactics that move decision-makers
After completing the course you will receive a certificate for Introduction to Organizing for Social Change from the Institute for Change Leaders.
You will learn through lectures and small group activities that will allow you to practice the skills we teach.
You will work with an experienced organizer, who will facilitate your group and help you plan your organizing project. You will finish the course ready to tell your story, with tools to plan your organizing project's strategy and tactics.
This training is being offered pro-bono to ensure cost does not prevent anyone from attending. If you are in a position to support the training with a donation, please do so here.
